Guitar and Ukulele Lessons

Students of All Ages Welcome!

East End

I offer guitar and ukulele instruction in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware. I am on the teaching staff of The Arts Academy at The Grand (http://www.grandopera.org/Arts-Academy) in Wilmington, Delaware, close to the Pennslyvania state line. I am very flexible and open to finding a path to help you to play music. My fortes are fingerstyle guitar, 12-string guitar and music from the 1920s-60s. Fingerstyle, in the tradition of my hero, Chet Atkins, can be applied to all kinds of music, including: swing, classic country, Gypsy jazz, Brazilian, Beatles and 1950s-60s rock and roll. I teach these styles and more.

I am a kind and patient teacher with over 30 years’ experience. I emphasize musical understanding and student satisfaction by using a combination of standard notation, tablature and music theory. I advise the student in all matters, including the purchase of an instrument. I happily and frequently teach students with widely varied interests: e.g., Delta blues, learning to accompany singing, playing swing-style jazz rhythm guitar.

I'm also a performer and composer. I was Philadelphia Magazine’s "Best of Philly" for Offbeat Entertainment in 1984. You can hear me live at the East End Cafe, 270 E. Main St., Newark, Delaware, every Thursday 6-9, or check the Calendar tab on this site to learn about my other appearances. You can also hear examples of my work on the Tunes tab on this website.

My rates are competitive with others who offer similar services. The Arts Academy at The Grand offers financial aid to qualified applicants. For information and registration at The Arts Academy, contact Pam Manocchio at 302-658-7897.
